Paris vs. New & East Meets West

I was first introduced to Yang Lui's East Meets West through a colleague. It's a wonderful graphical representation of the differences between Eastern and Western mentality (Lui was born in China but spent much of her life in Germany). Today, on the excellent blog Brain Pickings, I saw Paris vs. New York by Vahram Muratyan, which is extremely similar in layout and idea, if not exactly the same, but it clearly works just as well.

Mass Effect 3: Take Earth Back

These games adverts (I know they say 'trailers' but they're ads) are getting out of hand. Compare the GoldenEye for N64 ad (from '97) with this Mass Effect 3 ad. How times change. I still reckon I'd prefer to play GoldenEye.

Metrography - London with Tube Map Geography

We all know and love the London tube map. How couldn't you? If you don't do either, stop reading, Google it, and then look at it until you appreciate it. We also all know how messed up it is geographically speaking, but that's OK as it's clear to understand thanks to Beck mapping it topologically, and anyway, it's so lovely to look at.

Metrography, designed by Benedikt Groß and Bertrand Clerc shows London as it would be if geography followed topography. Good fun.

Having a bit of a Monty Python day today. The opening credits of Life of Brian is quite possibly one of my favourite openings ever. It might not be everyone's cup of tea, but I think everything about it is just brilliant, particularly the song.

Double Stuff

Last night I found this photo on my phone that I had taken in India and totally forgotten about. I wish I had taken more photos of the use of language, it was just wonderful. The only one I really remember was on a banner on the TV news. It said that someone had been taken to hospital after being manhandled. You just don't see 'manhandled' enough nowadays. Anyway, this is a flier pinned to a palm, advertising what seems to be some kind of trancy/poi event that has poing, stuff and doublestuff! Doublestuff. My favourite kind.

The 2012 ADDYs are coming up, and have a number of spots to support them. Some are total bollocks, like this:

Some are good for one line, such as "The miracle of childbirth is a clusterfuck of coordination."

Others are actually OK.

The Scale of the Universe
